Is ReSkate Safe? What It Does and What to Check

ReSkate is open source, but an open repository is not a guarantee about every downloaded binary. This page explains documented behavior and practical checks; it has no independent security audit or antivirus-test result.

ReSkate SHA-256 check: does your file match?

Choose the exact release file and paste the SHA-256 you calculated locally. No file is uploaded. A match confirms identity with this recorded reference, not safety, malware status or account policy.

A ZIP hash is not a hash for the extracted EXE or DLL. A mismatch with a different version is not a malware verdict.

Is ReSkate safe? Start with the original download

Use Dingo-Shenanigans/ReSkate on GitHub and its Releases page. Compare the owner, repository, release tag and asset name before downloading. Avoid a look-alike download button or a file that merely shares the launcher’s name. This website does not mirror player binaries or the game.

The source is published under GPL-3.0, which permits inspection of ReSkate’s own code under that licence. That transparency helps identify what to review. It does not by itself prove the release binary exactly matches the source, that every third-party dependency is harmless, or that a repackaged ZIP is genuine.

ReSkate launcher permissions and mod risks

The README describes a launcher that updates ReSkate, checks the supported game build and can download required game files with your Steam account. The runtime loads into the game process to add its features. Treat these as executable software on your PC rather than as a passive image or text mod.

The project lists separate local profile, game-settings and mod directories. These documented locations are useful for backups; they do not establish a security boundary that prevents the program from accessing anything else your account can access. This guide has not performed a filesystem-permission audit.

The project also warns that custom mod scripts can run code. An original author page and a familiar community category are useful provenance checks, but they are not a sandbox or a guarantee. Read requirements and source information before allowing an executable or script to run.

Investigate a ReSkate antivirus alert

This site has not scanned the v2.0.2 binaries or reproduced an alert. We cannot tell you that a detection is a false positive merely because the launcher loads code into a game process. Keep the full detection name, file path, release version and where you downloaded it.

First compare the download with the original release source and check whether files were altered or repackaged. Look for maintainer notices and existing reports for that exact file. If you cannot establish its provenance or explain the alert, do not run it while investigating.

Do not disable protection for the entire Steam library as a default installation step. A clean scan from one tool also does not prove absence of risk. When sharing a detection report, remove account information and personal paths while retaining enough detail to identify the file.

ReSkate SHA-256 hashes and signatures

If a publisher provides a trusted SHA-256 value for the exact asset, compare your file with that value. A match checks file identity relative to that reference; it does not establish that the matching software is harmless. Do not compare your file to a value obtained from the same untrusted mirror.

The GitHub Releases API record supplies a SHA-256 digest for the named ReSkate-2.0.2.zip asset, and this guide records that reference for comparison. That does not amount to an independent binary audit, malware scan or security certificate, and no signature-verification claim is made here. You can calculate a local hash for a report with the PowerShell command below, replacing the path with your actual archive. A match identifies the file relative to the cited release record; it does not prove that the software is harmless.

Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 -LiteralPath "C:\Downloads\ReSkate-2.0.2.zip"

Steam sign-in, crash reports and network requests

This website never asks for your Steam credentials. The README says the launcher can authenticate with Steam when supported game files need downloading. Make your decision about that executable’s origin before signing in; keep Steam Guard and session material out of reports.

The project’s privacy section says launcher or game crashes upload a minidump and session log to its Backtrace account. It says the log does not contain your Steam password or login name. That is a maintainer statement, not an independent audit of every possible crash-dump field.

To disable these crash uploads, the documented choices are to untick Send crash reports in the launcher’s Settings → ADVANCED, or set RESKATE_CRASH_REPORTING=0. The README also says EA telemetry and remote configuration are blocked while some fast-travel artwork is still fetched from EA’s image CDN.

ReSkate account and ban risk limits

No. This is unofficial software, and this guide has no verified guarantee from EA about account consequences. ReSkate’s documented offline and community multiplayer features are distinct from the normal game’s official online services, but that distinction is not a promise about every account or future policy.

Use the original project documentation to understand the route you are choosing, and make your own decision before modifying a game installation. Do not treat an anecdote, a download count or a website’s “safe” label as a policy guarantee. This page does not claim ReSkate is a virus either; we lack the independent evidence required for either absolute verdict.
