What is ReSkate?
ReSkate is a launcher and a runtime that loads into skate., with a separate dedicated server for hosts. It is not a standalone skating game. The underlying game comes from Steam; the project adds ways to play and customise it. This site explains that project and links to its original files.
The project describes offline sessions, player-hosted Steam lobbies and dedicated servers. Its in-game menu includes maps, fast travel, a park editor, world settings and skater options. Custom maps, cosmetics, loading screens and scripts are part of its mod system. Start with the plain client so you can distinguish a setup problem from a mod problem.
Five steps to your first session
- Download the player ZIP from the original GitHub Releases page. Server packages are separate.
- Extract ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll beside Skate.exe, or into a separate empty folder.
- Run the launcher and allow it to check the supported game build. Use its Steam sign-in flow if game files are needed.
- Press PLAY with optional mods disabled. Keep any exact error message.
- Press Insert to open the ReSkate menu. Confirm what you see yourself; this website cannot detect the game.
What you need before downloading
The supported game build and the ReSkate release number describe different things. The launcher checks the game files against its supported build; a Steam update can leave your regular game installation ahead of that build.
| Item | Documented requirement / limit |
|---|---|
| Game source | Your own Steam copy of skate.; no game files are hosted here. |
| Windows route | A Windows PC; this website has not run an installation or a hardware benchmark. |
| Storage | The README estimates about 14 GB for the separate-folder game download. Mods need additional space. |
| Linux / Steam Deck | Use the project’s Proton route. Steam Deck is explicitly untested in the project README. |
| Consoles / macOS | No installation route is documented here for PS5, Xbox or macOS. |
Release snapshot and what changed
The latest-release endpoint was checked for this edition: v2.0.2, published October 9, 2026. Its release body is empty, so we do not invent a changelog. The current README lists the following capabilities; these are documentation highlights, not three changes claimed to belong to v2.0.2.
- Launcher: checks the supported game build and can obtain missing files using your Steam account.
- Mods: browse the Thunderstore community in the launcher and manage enabled content in the in-game menu.
- Parks: the README now describes random park layouts and an optional randomise-on-launch setting.
Before you jump in
- Is it free? ReSkate is an open-source fan project. You still need your own Steam copy of skate.
- Does it work offline? Offline play is a project feature. Initial game downloads and online lobbies are separate network tasks.
- Can I use a PS5 or Xbox? This guide covers the PC project; there is no console setup route here.
- Is it safe? Source checks reduce uncertainty, but this site has not performed a binary audit or antivirus test.
- Will I get banned? We cannot promise account outcomes for unofficial software. Read the safety page before choosing to use it.
- Is Steam Deck verified? No. Read the documented Proton route and its limits before trying it.
