How to Install ReSkate — Download, Setup & First Launch

Use your own Steam copy of skate. and the project’s player archive. These Windows instructions are checked against documentation; installation and gameplay have not been tested by this site.

How to install ReSkate: check your Steam build

Compares the number you enter with the reviewed build 25414733. This does not inspect your files or prove the game will run.

How to install ReSkate on Windows: requirements

Have Steam, access to your skate. copy, a writable installation folder and enough free disk space ready. Close the game before changing launcher files. If you already have saves or a working mod setup, back them up before making changes. Keep the clean setup separate from experiments when possible.

ReSkate supports one game build at a time. The reviewed README specifies build 25414733; v2.0.2 is the ReSkate client release. Installing the newest Steam game does not by itself prove it matches that build. The launcher checks the actual files and may offer to obtain the supported ones.

For the separate-folder route, the README estimates about 14 GB for the game download. Leave room for the archive, updates and any mods you add. This is a download estimate, not a published minimum-spec benchmark. We have no measured frame-rate or hardware recommendation.

Download the ReSkate player archive

Open the original repository’s Releases page. The player ZIP is named ReSkate-<version>.zip; at the reviewed release it is ReSkate-2.0.2.zip. Download the archive from that page, extract it, and keep its included files together. The game itself is not in this website’s downloads.

ReSkateServer packages are for hosts running a headless dedicated server. They do not replace the player launcher. A source-code ZIP is also different from the prebuilt player ZIP. If you cannot identify the package you need, stop at the original release page and compare its asset names.

Check that the owner is Dingo-Shenanigans and the repository is ReSkate. This guide links to the release page rather than keeping a binary mirror, so the original version, files and any later notices remain visible. Do not assume a similarly named file from another domain came from the project.

Choose a ReSkate game folder

Existing Steam installation: in Steam, open skate. → Manage → Browse local files. Extract the client so ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll are beside Skate.exe. An extra directory such as skate/ReSkate-2.0.2/ReSkateLauncher.exe is not the documented placement. Check the real extracted folder before proceeding.

Separate installation: extract the player client into an empty, writable folder. The launcher can fetch the supported game files there. Do not point a cleanup action at your unrelated Steam library; record which directory you chose so that troubleshooting and removal target the right installation.

The diagrams in the checklist explain placement. They are not screenshots from a running game. The assistant above chooses the matching five-step checklist; the expandable checklists on this page work without JavaScript. Neither route has been independently executed on a Windows device by this site.

Run ReSkateLauncher and verify Steam files

Run ReSkateLauncher.exe. According to the README, it checks for ReSkate updates first, then compares the game files with the supported build. If files are missing or Steam has moved the game past that build, it asks you to sign in and downloads the files it needs.

The documented sign-in choices are scanning a QR code with the Steam app, or using a username and password with Steam Guard. This website has no Steam sign-in form and never needs your password. Check the launcher’s origin before authenticating, and do not publish codes or session tokens when asking for help.

Allow verification to finish before pressing PLAY. A network or authentication failure is not proof that reinstalling will help. Keep the exact message, which folder path you chose and the client version. Use those details to look for the same symptom in the original issue tracker.

First ReSkate launch checklist

Press PLAY in the launcher with optional mods disabled. The expected result in the documentation is that the game starts through ReSkate. If it stops or crashes, preserve the message and log before changing files. This page does not claim that a particular loading screen or elapsed time has been observed.

Once the game is running, press Insert to open the ReSkate menu. The grave/tilde key opens the console; help lists its commands. T opens multiplayer chat. The menu and console bindings can be changed in the launcher’s Settings, so use the binding configured on your own installation.

Check a plain session before adding a custom map or cosmetic package. Record the ReSkate version, supported game build and result. A successful clean launch on your machine is useful evidence for your setup; clicking the assistant’s completion button saves only your self-report.

  • Launcher verification has completed without an unresolved message.
  • The game starts via ReSkateLauncher.exe.
  • The configured ReSkate menu key opens the menu.
  • You can identify the version and folder used for this session.
  • Optional mods are added one at a time after the clean baseline.

ReSkate installation troubleshooting

Wrong build: let the launcher check the supported files rather than mixing executables from different installations. Missing game: verify the chosen folder and the placement of both client files. Launcher crash: keep logs/ReSkate.log and the exact message. Antivirus alert: check the original source and alert details before taking action.

These checks narrow down the problem; they are not universal fixes. Avoid stacking unrelated changes such as a new Proton version, multiple mods and a different game build at the same time. The troubleshooting page separates symptoms so you can change one variable and record what happened.

Back up ReSkate profiles and settings

The README keeps ReSkate data apart from the normal game. The Windows profile is %LOCALAPPDATA%\ReSkate\profiles\offline\ and the game’s own settings and saves used by ReSkate are %LOCALAPPDATA%\ReSkate\Game\. Copy data you want to keep while the game is closed.

Mods live under Mods\<mod name>\ beside Skate.exe; the order is recorded in Mods\mods.json. Launcher settings are in ReSkateLauncher.settings.json beside the launcher. Back up those records if you need to reproduce a working setup. On Linux, do not assume the Windows host path: account for the game’s Proton prefix.

Uninstall or roll back ReSkate safely

Close the launcher and game. If you used a separate folder, first copy out the profile, settings and other files you want to retain. Then remove only the ReSkate installation you identified. Do not delete an entire Steam library or the shared local-data directory just to remove one launcher.

For an existing Steam folder, remove the client files and optional mods you added, keeping track of exactly what you changed. Steam’s own file verification can restore its game files; it is not a promise to remove every extra mod file or preserve your custom configuration. Review the folder before relaunching the normal game.

For rollback, use an identifiable older release from the original repository and read its requirements before replacing files. The launcher normally checks for updates; the README documents --no-update as a way to skip that check. An older client may still be incompatible with your game build, mods or server. There is no blanket recommendation here to downgrade.
