ReSkate Not Working? Start with the Symptom
Choose the failure you can actually see, then check one variable at a time. These are documentation-based checks and reporting steps, not guaranteed fixes tested on every device.

Stopped working after a game or client update?
Record what changed before attempting repairs: the Steam game build, ReSkate client release, optional mod version, or all three. ReSkate supports a single game build at a time. A regular Steam update may move the game past the build the client supports; the launcher is designed to check that situation and obtain supported files.
Use the current original README and release record to compare versions. The reviewed snapshot is v2.0.2 / build 25414733. The fact that a package is newer does not establish that your older mods or your chosen server support it. Keep a previous working configuration record, but do not combine files from several releases to approximate one.
If the failure appeared after a mod update, first disable that package and repeat the same clean launch. If it appeared after a game update, inspect the launcher’s verification result first. This keeps the experiment tied to the actual change instead of adding several unrelated fixes.
Launcher will not open, or the game fails at startup
Confirm you downloaded the player ZIP from Dingo-Shenanigans/ReSkate. Extract it before running the launcher. In the existing-folder route, ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll belong beside Skate.exe. In the separate-folder route, the launcher obtains the game files into the chosen installation.
If the launcher reports a missing file, use its exact name and path to compare the extracted layout. Avoid immediately downloading an unrelated DLL from a search result. If security software quarantined a file, read the alert and verify the original source before making an exception.
If a runtime or injection error appears, preserve the whole message and logs/ReSkate.log beside Skate.exe. We have not reproduced an injection failure, so this page does not invent a universal administrator-mode fix or a required antivirus exclusion. Search the project tracker using the exact error text and release number.
Game files, Steam sign-in or verification stop
The launcher compares files against the supported game build, not merely the game’s product name. Missing files or a newer Steam installation can trigger the documented download flow. Keep track of whether the failure occurred before sign-in, during Steam Guard, during downloading or at verification.
Confirm you still have access to the Steam account that owns the game and that the selected installation folder is writable and has free space. Use the project’s authentication prompt; this website never receives those credentials. Do not repeatedly replace game files while the launcher is still reporting a download in progress.
A stalled progress indicator is not enough to identify one cause. Save the exact error, client version and the last completed step. Check original issues for the same stage before resetting anything. No fixed wait time, regional-network workaround or cache-deletion command has been tested by this guide.
A mod is missing, skipped or seems to cause a crash
The README says outdated mods and content that cannot merge cleanly are skipped with a message naming the package. Read that message first. Compare the package author’s supported build, dependencies and folder instructions; a current client does not automatically update every content package.
If the clean session worked before the last mod was added, disable that mod and repeat the identical check. Then test optional packages individually. If each works alone but the combination fails, preserve package names, versions and load order. Korrect’s cosmetic pack, for example, warns of conflicts between packs adding new items.
Large map problems can also be specific to memory, loading or collision. Read the author’s known issues instead of assuming the launcher must be broken. South Florida notes problems on some 4 GB graphics cards; Skate2Map distinguishes package versions intended for different hardware. These are author reports, not benchmarks performed by this website.
Offline works, but a lobby or server does not
Separate the modes. The README describes offline play with Steam closed, Steam-hosted lobbies and dedicated-server connections. A successful offline session does not prove an online session is configured. Start with the project’s current instructions for the mode you are using and keep Steam running when using its lobby features.
Note whether the server appears in the browser, the join request fails, or loading stops after joining. Record the server, client version, active map and exact message. For a password-protected lobby, check the code and password with the host without posting them publicly. Compare a plain map session before adding optional server content.
On Linux, the README’s issue #31 advice is to load the server’s map before joining if a custom-map transition leaves the screen black. This is a specific upstream workaround, not a blanket repair for every multiplayer failure.
Dedicated-host network setup is separate from player installation. Consult Server documentation for the current ports and host requirements rather than opening an arbitrary firewall range. This guide has not deployed or load-tested a game server.
Make a clean recovery attempt without losing evidence
Close the game and launcher. Preserve the log and record the client/build/mod versions first. Back up your profile and settings before deleting files. Disable optional mods, then return to the exact folder layout in the installation guide.
If you choose a fresh separate-folder installation, use an empty folder and an original player archive. Let its launcher obtain and verify the supported game files. Keep the old installation until you have copied data you want to retain; do not treat a full library deletion as a reinstall step.
Repeat only the first-launch and menu checks before restoring optional packages. Record the outcome. If the same failure persists with a clean setup, that is useful information for maintainers. Do not label the recovery successful until you personally observe the result.
Prepare a report maintainers can use
Search the original GitHub issue tracker for the exact symptom. Compare the issue’s versions and platform with yours; an old report is not proof that a bug remains in the current release. If the project asks for a log, review it for personal information before sharing.
Use the template below as a starting point. Do not include a Steam password, Steam Guard code, QR code, session token or private lobby password. Reports go to the original project using its own process; this website has no feedback backend.
